Overview

Pancreatic islet cells, also known as the islets of Langerhans, are clusters of endocrine cells within the pancreas responsible for regulating blood glucose and other metabolic processes through hormone secretion. They contain alpha, beta, delta, PP, and epsilon cells, each producing distinct hormones (glucagon, insulin, somatostatin, pancreatic polypeptide, and ghrelin, respectively) to maintain glucose homeostasis.
