Overview

The Panel of 7 Tumor-Associated Antigens (7-TAA) is a diagnostic biomarker set primarily utilized for the early detection of lung cancer through the identification of circulating autoantibodies. The panel typically consists of seven specific proteins: p53, NY-ESO-1, CAGE, GBU4-5, Annexin 1, SOX2, and HuD, which are known to be immunogenic when expressed by malignant cells (PMID: 28453010). These antigens are involved in critical cellular pathways, including cell cycle control, apoptosis, and transcription regulation, and their aberrant expression triggers a measurable humoral immune response (PMID: 31594608). As a diagnostic tool, the 7-TAA panel can identify individuals at high risk of malignancy often before clinical symptoms or radiological evidence appear. While the individual proteins within the panel may be investigated as therapeutic targets, the panel itself is not a target for drug intervention but rather a tool for patient stratification and early screening (PMID: 32450146). The clinical utility of this panel is most established in the context of risk assessment for lung cancer in high-risk populations, such as heavy smokers.
