Pannexin 1 (Panx1) is a widely expressed membrane channel protein that forms large-pore, non-selective channels permeable to ions and small molecules, most notably ATP. Panx1 channels play critical roles in physiological and pathophysiological processes across the nervous, cardiovascular, and immune systems. It mediates ATP release for purinergic signaling and contributes to inflammation, cell death, blood pressure regulation, and calcium wave propagation. Panx1 is a potential therapeutic target in diseases such as asthma, hypertension, stroke, and seizures.
