Pannexin 1 (Panx1) is a large-pore, non-selective channel protein widely expressed in mammalian tissues. It is best known for its role in mediating the release of ATP and other nucleotides, thereby participating in purinergic signaling. Panx1 channels are activated by diverse stimuli such as mechanical stress, voltage changes, increased intracellular calcium levels, and receptor signaling.
