Overview

Pannexin 1 (Panx1) is a large-pore, non-selective channel protein widely expressed in mammalian tissues. It is best known for its role in mediating the release of ATP and other nucleotides, thereby participating in purinergic signaling. Panx1 channels are activated by diverse stimuli such as mechanical stress, voltage changes, increased intracellular calcium levels, and receptor signaling. Dysregulation of Panx1 has been implicated in several diseases, including asthma, hypertension, and cancer, making it an attractive therapeutic target for modulating inflammatory responses or pathological purinergic signaling.
