Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL), also known as LukSF, is a bicomponent, pore-forming cytotoxin produced by certain strains of *Staphylococcus aureus*. It is composed of two protein subunits: LukS-PV and LukF-PV. It functions by forming pores in immune cell membranes, leading primarily to neutrophil lysis—a process central to its pathogenicity. PVL is strongly associated with increased virulence in community-associated methicillin-resistant *S. aureus* (CA-MRSA) and some methicillin-susceptible strains. The primary receptor for PVL on human cells is the C5a receptor (hC5aR).
