PAPPA antisense RNA 2 (PAPPA-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the PAPPA gene locus in the antisense orientation. It is also known as AGU1 or adipogenesis up-regulated transcript 1, reflecting its upregulation during adipogenic differentiation in certain cell models. As a lncRNA, PAPPA-AS2 does not encode a protein. It is hypothesized to play a regulatory role in gene expression, especially in adipogenesis, and has emerging evidence associating its dysregulation with cancer. There is currently no evidence that PAPPA-AS2 is a direct target of approved small molecules or biologics, nor is it classified as a receptor, enzyme, or other common drug target class. Instead, PAPPA-AS2 fits within the growing class of regulatory lncRNAs involved in cell differentiation, proliferation, and disease, and may serve as a putative biomarker or future therapeutic target in oncology and metabolic disease contexts (information inferred from similar lncRNAs and their roles in cancer and adipogenesis).
