Overview

PARD6G antisense RNA 1 (PARD6G-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the PARD6G gene. It does not encode a protein and is involved in the regulation of gene expression primarily through epigenetic mechanisms such as imprinting and methylation. PARD6G-AS1 can act as a sponge for microRNAs, thereby modulating the activity of microRNAs and impacting target gene expression[2]. Its promoter region is differentially methylated in a parent-of-origin-dependent (maternal) manner, with hypomethylation implicated in several imprinting disorders and certain hematopoietic cancers[3]. PARD6G-AS1 is expressed biallelically across multiple human tissues and is not subject to classical monoallelic imprinting-based silencing[3]. There are currently no known drugs that directly target PARD6G-AS1, nor are there established biomarkers or targeted therapeutic safety concerns reported in the literature[5].
