Pathobiont gut microbiota refers to *members* of the gut microbiome that are normally harmless or even symbiotic, but can become pathogenic (i.e., cause or exacerbate disease) when the gut environment is disrupted by genetic, immunological, or environmental changes such as antibiotic use[1][2][3]. Notable examples include *Clostridioides difficile*, *Adherent-invasive E. coli*, *Fusobacterium nucleatum*, and *Helicobacter hepaticus*[1]. "Pathobiont gut microbiota" is not a molecular or receptor target, but a description of certain potentially pathogenic bacteria within the gut; it cannot be mapped to the structure required for single-molecule or single-protein therapeutic targets. It is best understood as a risk factor or a category of disease-promoting organisms, not as a distinct, actionable drug target[1][2][3].
