Target intelligence / Profile preview
A pathogen-specific antigen is a unique molecular structure found on or produced by a particular pathogen that is recognized by the host immune system. These antigens are distinct to each type of pathogen and serve as markers that alert the immune system to the presence of an infection. Recognition leads to activation of B-cells and T-cells which leads to pathogen elimination.
Antibody binding neutralizes pathogens or marks them for destruction. T-cells recognize antigen fragments and initiate cellular responses.
