Pathogenic Autoreactive T Cell

Molecular classification
T lymphocyte, Immune cell
01

Overview

Pathogenic autoreactive T cells are T lymphocytes that mistakenly recognize and react against self-antigens, leading to tissue damage and the development or perpetuation of autoimmune diseases. They arise due to failures in central and peripheral tolerance mechanisms and mediate tissue destruction through direct cytotoxicity or by orchestrating inflammatory responses. These cells are implicated in a wide range of autoimmune disorders and represent a key therapeutic target for modulating disease progression.
