Overview
Pathogenic T cells are a subset of T lymphocytes that, rather than protecting the body from pathogens, contribute to disease by attacking self-tissues or promoting chronic inflammation. These cells play a central role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and other immune-mediated disorders. Key subtypes include overactive or dysregulated Th1, Th17 (CD4+) and cytotoxic (CD8+) populations. Targeting these cells is a major therapeutic strategy.
