These pathogens utilize various virulence factors to adhere to respiratory epithelium, evade the host immune response, and cause tissue damage leading to diseases like pneumonia and bronchitis (StatPearls, 2023). Because this term describes a diverse group of organisms rather than a single molecule, it does not represent a specific therapeutic target; instead, each pathogen contains unique molecular targets such as enzymes or structural proteins. Therapeutic intervention involves the use of antibiotics, antivirals, or antifungals designed to selectively inhibit microbial processes while minimizing harm to the host. The clinical management of these pathogens is increasingly complicated by the rise of multi-drug resistant strains, necessitating the development of novel anti-infective agents and vaccines (CDC, 2023). Effective treatment often requires rapid diagnostic identification to tailor therapy to the specific causative agent.
