Pathogens on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) surfaces refer to a broad spectrum of infectious agents, including viruses (e.g., SARS-CoV-2), bacteria (e.g., MRSA), and fungi, that adhere to and persist on protective gear such as respirators, gowns, and gloves (CDC, 2020). These microorganisms pose a significant risk for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and secondary transmission through contact or self-contamination during the removal of equipment (WHO, 2020). Studies have demonstrated that certain viruses can remain viable on synthetic surfaces for several days, necessitating stringent decontamination protocols (van Doremalen et al., 2020). Because this is a collective category of organisms rather than a single protein or receptor, it does not constitute a specific molecular therapeutic target. Instead, it is the focus of environmental hygiene, biocidal disinfection, and the development of antimicrobial material coatings (EPA, 2021). Effective management involves chemical or physical agents that non-specifically disrupt microbial membranes or proteins to ensure safety in clinical and industrial environments (StatPearls, 2023).
