PAXBP1 antisense RNA 1 (PAXBP1-AS1), also known as GCFC1-AS1, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the PAXBP1 gene. It does not encode a protein but regulates gene expression at both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, often by affecting the stability or transcription of specific target mRNAs or by binding to protein partners. PAXBP1-AS1 has been implicated in several cancer types, including glioma and gastric cancer, where its abnormal expression correlates with disease progression and prognosis. Mechanistically, it can modulate epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), tumor cell migration, invasion, and angiogenesis by influencing key signaling axes or recruiting transcription factors to gene promoters. PAXBP1-AS1 may serve as a potential biomarker in oncology but is not currently a direct therapeutic target, and no drugs are known to act on it directly[2][3][4][5][8]. Note: - There is no evidence that PAXBP1-AS1 is a protein or classical drug target (receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.); rather, it is a regulatory RNA linked to cancer progression and prognosis. - No drug molecules are reported to directly target or modulate PAXBP1-AS1 as of now, and there are no established safety concerns specific to its targeting, given it is not a drug target currently. - Alternative symbols/aliases and previous gene symbols have been documented in major sequence and genomics databases[1][6][8].
