Overview

PC-esterase domain-containing 1B antisense RNA 1 (PCED1B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the PCED1B locus. It is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm of cancer cells and is notably upregulated in several malignancies, including glioblastoma, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), and cervical cancer[1][2][3][4][5][6]. PCED1B-AS1 acts primarily as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), binding and sequestering microRNAs such as miR-484 and miR-411-3p, leading to the de-repression of oncogenic effector genes such as ZEB1, a master regulator of epithelial-mesenchymal transition[1][3]. In glioblastoma, PCED1B-AS1 enhances the translation of HIF-1α, promoting the Warburg effect and aggressive tumor phenotypes[4][6]. High expression is positively correlated with tumor size, stage, metastasis, and poor patient prognosis. As an oncogenic lncRNA, PCED1B-AS1 contributes to tumor proliferation, migration, invasion, and metabolic reprogramming, making it a promising biomarker and potential molecular target in cancer therapy, though no drugs currently target it directly.
