PCBP3 antisense RNA 1 (PCBP3-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA gene located on human chromosome 21. It is transcribed from the opposite (antisense) strand relative to the PCBP3 gene. As a member of the lncRNA class, its transcript is not translated into protein but may play roles in regulating gene expression, RNA stability, or protein interactions. Currently, its specific biological activities and clinical relevance are not well defined, and it is chiefly noted in genomic databases rather than functional studies. PCBP3-AS1 is distinct from PCBP3 (Poly(rC)-binding protein 3), which is a protein-coding gene with known RNA-binding activity and some disease associations. Antisense RNAs often regulate their sense counterparts (here, PCBP3) at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level, but there is no direct experimental data for PCBP3-AS1’s role in human health or disease.
