Overview

PCMTD1 divergent transcript (PCMTD1-DT, LOC124901944) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the promoter region of the PCMTD1 gene and in the opposite orientation, a phenomenon referred to as divergent transcription.[3] Divergent transcripts are commonly found near promoters of protein-coding genes and can play roles in chromatin structure, transcriptional regulation, and origination of new genes over evolutionary timescales. Currently, there is no evidence that PCMTD1-DT encodes a protein, functions as a therapeutic target, or serves as a biomarker. The functional significance of most divergent noncoding transcripts—including PCMTD1-DT—remains unclear in mammalian genomes, and specific biological functions or disease associations have not been established[3]. The nearby protein-coding gene, PCMTD1, has been genetically linked to primary angle-closure glaucoma, but such disease roles are not assigned directly to PCMTD1-DT[1][2]. If you require information about the protein-coding gene PCMTD1, let me know. For the specified transcript, available data support its status as a noncoding RNA, not a classical therapeutic target.
