Overview

PCOLCE antisense RNA 1 (PCOLCE-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 7q22.1 and does not code for a protein[3][5]. It is transcribed antisense to the PCOLCE protein-coding gene and is affiliated with the lncRNA class[5]. Recent research suggests that PCOLCE-AS1 may act as a biomarker of immune-depleted tumor microenvironments in ovarian cancer, with higher expression found in immune-depleted tumor tissues compared to immune-enriched ones—implying a role in regulating local immune states[4]. Functional annotation indicates that PCOLCE-AS1 undergoes RNA A-to-I editing, which can alter its interaction with microRNAs and perhaps influence RNA stability and gene regulation networks[3]. However, it is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no known drugs are directed against it. Research on its mechanistic role and utility in disease remains ongoing.
