PDCL3 pseudogene 4 (PDCL3P4) is a noncoding RNA derived from a retrotransposed copy of the phosducin-like 3 gene (PDCL3)[1]. It is transcribed from a long terminal repeat (LTR) promoter on chromosome 3 and is highly enriched in the nucleus, suggesting a regulatory role as a lncRNA rather than serving as a protein-coding gene[1]. Experimental knockout in cells results in significant alteration of global gene expression without affecting the expression of the parental PDCL3 gene, indicating that PDCL3P4 functions independently as a regulatory RNA. It exemplifies pseudogene-derived lncRNAs with potential impacts on cellular transcriptomes, but it is not an established drug target or biomarker, and its molecular mechanisms remain under investigation[1].
