PDE4B antisense RNA 1 (PDE4B-AS1)

Target
PDE4B-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA, Antisense RNA

Overview

PDE4B antisense RNA 1 (PDE4B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the genomic locus antisense to the PDE4B gene. Like other naturally occurring antisense RNAs, it may participate in the regulation of its sense counterpart (PDE4B) by altering mRNA levels, processing, or translation, but no detailed functional studies are available linking PDE4B-AS1 itself to specific biological processes or human disease. At present, it is not recognized as a therapeutic target, and very little specific literature exists about its functions or clinical significance. Key distinction: PDE4B-AS1 is a non-coding RNA transcript, not the protein-coding enzyme phosphodiesterase 4B (PDE4B), which is a characterized drug target. Most literature and drug development relates to PDE4B, not PDE4B-AS1.

Mechanism of action

None known. No mechanism for drug action on PDE4B-AS1 is described.

03

Biological functions

Insufficient published evidence describing specific functions for PDE4B-AS1. Generally, antisense lncRNAs can modulate the expression level, splicing, or stability of the sense mRNA.
04

Disease associations

No direct disease roles are attributed to PDE4B-AS1. Some lncRNAs can impact disease by regulating associated protein-coding genes, but there is no published disease association for PDE4B-AS1.
