Overview

PDAP1 pseudogene 3 (PDAP1P3) is a genomic DNA sequence highly similar to the PDGFA-associated protein 1 (PDAP1) gene but contains defects (such as premature stop codons or frameshifts) that likely render it non-coding and non-functional as a protein. Pseudogenes like PDAP1P3 are regarded as relics of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are usually defunct relatives of functional genes. While some pseudogenes are emerging as regulators at the RNA level, most—including PDAP1P3—have not been shown to have biological, pathological, or therapeutic roles. By convention, pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins and are not drug targets, receptors, enzymes, or molecular biomarkers unless there is direct evidence to the contrary. The parent gene—PDGFA-associated protein 1 (PDAP1)—is a protein with biological functions and has been discussed as a potential cancer target, but PDAP1P3 does not share these characteristics. In summary: PDAP1P3 is not a drug target, is not implicated in disease, lacks recognized aliases or interacting drugs, and is correctly classified as a pseudogene. There is nothing to suggest a receptor or enzymatic function, and its primary significance is limited to genomic annotation.
