PDZ and LIM domain 1 pseudogene 3 (PDLIM1P3) is classified as a **pseudogene**, meaning it is a genomic sequence that closely resembles the functional gene PDZ and LIM domain 1 (PDLIM1) but is not believed to encode a functional protein product[1][4]. Pseudogenes typically arise by gene duplication or retrotransposition events and then accumulate disabling mutations, such as frameshifts or premature stop codons, rendering them generally non-functional at the protein-coding level[4]. PDLIM1P3 is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. While some pseudogenes in general can exert regulatory effects at the RNA level (for example by acting as decoys for microRNAs or sources of regulatory non-coding RNAs), there is currently no evidence that PDLIM1P3 itself has such a functional role or disease association[2][4]. Its primary significance is as a genomic element related to, but distinct from, the protein-coding PDZ and LIM domain 1 gene.
