Target intelligence / Profile preview
PDZ domain-containing proteins are a large and diverse family of cytoplasmic adapter or scaffold proteins characterized by the presence of one or more PDZ domains. They organize signaling complexes at cellular membranes by anchoring receptor proteins to cytoskeletal components and other membrane-associated molecules. They also regulate trafficking, surface retention, endocytosis, recycling, or degradation of various receptors. Dysfunction in PDZ domain-mediated interactions has been linked to numerous diseases including cancer as well as neurological disorders.
Small molecule inhibitors targeting specific PDZ-protein interactions are under investigation.
