PDZRN4 antisense RNA 1 (PDZRN4-AS1)

Target
PDZRN4-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Non-protein-coding RNA

Overview

PDZRN4 antisense RNA 1 (PDZRN4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed from the DNA strand opposite the PDZRN4 protein-coding gene. As an antisense RNA, PDZRN4-AS1 may regulate the expression of PDZRN4 through cis or trans mechanisms, affecting local chromatin structure or acting as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to modulate microRNA activity. PDZRN4-AS1 belongs to the broad class of long non-coding RNAs involved in epigenetic regulation, and though antisense RNAs in general can be implicated in cancer and other diseases, PDZRN4-AS1 itself has not been directly linked to specific pathology or targeted therapeutics.

Mechanism of action

None known. There are no established drugs or therapies targeting PDZRN4-AS1. Mechanistic actions are limited to gene regulation, primarily through antisense-based transcriptional or post-transcriptional interference

03

Biological functions

Post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression (by antisense mechanism)Regulation of chromatin organization and transcriptional activity at the PDZRN4 locus (inferred from general antisense RNA functions)Potential competing endogenous RNA activity (ceRNA), i.e., may function as a miRNA sponge (by analogy to other antisense lncRNAs)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (only theoretical or by analogy to other antisense lncRNAs—no direct evidence for PDZRN4-AS1 itself yet)Other (general regulation; lncRNAs frequently have roles in imprinting, developmental disease, and cancer, but there is no direct disease association reported for PDZRN4-AS1 itself as of now)
