Overview

Ara h 2 is a major peanut allergen and a conglutin seed storage protein belonging to the 2S albumin family. It is one of the most potent and clinically significant allergens in peanuts, recognized by IgE antibodies in approximately 80–97% of individuals with peanut allergy. Sensitization to Ara h 2 is strongly associated with more severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. It consists of five α-helices held together by four disulfide bridges, conferring high resistance against gastrointestinal enzymes and heat, allowing intact IgE-binding epitopes to persist.
