Peanut Allergen-Specific T Cell

Molecular classification
T lymphocyte, CD4+ T cell, CD8+ T cell

Overview

Peanut allergen-specific T cells are a subset of T lymphocytes that recognize and respond to specific protein components (allergens) found in peanuts. These cells play a central role in the immune response underlying peanut allergy, as well as in the development of tolerance during immunotherapy. Peanut-specific CD4+ T cells are key drivers of allergic reactions to peanuts by orchestrating the immune response and promoting IgE production. The most clinically relevant peanut allergens targeted by these T cells include Ara h 1, Ara h 2, and Ara h 3. Analysis of peanut allergen-specific T cell frequency, phenotype, and function provides insight into disease severity, risk stratification, and monitoring therapeutic interventions. Successful immunotherapy can induce new subsets of allergen-reactive regulatory or anergic CD4+ T cells associated with clinical tolerance.
