Pecanex-like protein 3 (PCNX3)

Pecanex-like protein 3 is a membrane-associated protein encoded by the human PCNX3 gene on chromosome 11. Its physiological function is not well defined and there is no experimental evidence supporting a specific molecular role. Expression is seen in a variety of tissues, including the central nervous system, alimentary system, reproductive system, and others in both mouse and human datasets. An association has been reported with abdominal obesity-metabolic syndrome 1, but functional or mechanistic causal links have not been established. PCNX3 has a paralog, PCNX1, and shares predicted membrane localization. There is no evidence in current databases that PCNX3 is a druggable target, or that it interacts with therapeutic agents.
