Mechanism of action

Sulbactam acts as a beta-lactam antibiotic mimic that covalently binds to the active site of PBP1 and PBP3, inhibiting their transpeptidase activity and preventing the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, which leads to bacterial cell lysis (PMID: 32814657, FDA: X}
