Penta-EF-hand domain containing protein 1 (PEF1), also known as peflin, is a calcium-binding member of the penta-EF-hand protein family that contains five EF-hand motifs and forms heterodimers with programmed cell death 6 (PDCD6/ALG-2) in a Ca2+-dependent manner[2][4][6][9]. PEF1 acts as an adapter or bridge, stabilizing protein-protein complexes in response to changes in intracellular calcium concentrations[2][9]. PEF1 is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs or established mechanisms of therapeutic action directly targeting this molecule.
