Overview

Pentatricopeptide repeat domain 3 pseudogene (ENSG00000268379) is a nonfunctional DNA segment in the human genome resembling the functional pentatricopeptide repeat domain 3 (PTCD3) gene. Pseudogenes, including this one, arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events but lack the capacity to encode functional protein products due to accumulations of disabling mutations or absence of necessary regulatory sequences. While the protein-coding PTCD3 gene is involved in mitochondrial RNA binding and translation[3], the pseudogene does not contribute to these biological processes and has no established role in disease, therapeutic targeting, or as a biomarker[4][2].
