Overview

Pepsinogen B pseudogene refers to a gene duplication of pepsinogen B (Pgb), an aspartic protease zymogen involved in gastric digestion, that has become non-functional due to frameshift mutations, premature stop codons, or other disabling changes[1][4][5]. Unlike its protein-coding counterparts, the pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and plays no direct enzymatic or signaling role in physiology or disease. Although pseudogenes can sometimes act as regulatory RNAs, no evidence suggests such a function for the PGBP locus. For most research and therapeutic purposes, pepsinogen B pseudogene is not considered a valid drug target, receptor, or biomarker.
