Peptidase D pseudogene (ENSG00000236319, LOC100418888) is a non-coding sequence in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the coding gene Peptidase D (PEPD) but does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes like this are typically considered genomic “fossils” and are not active therapeutic targets or functional proteins. While some pseudogenes may influence biological processes through regulatory RNAs, there is no evidence that this specific pseudogene has established biological or therapeutic relevance. The functional PEPD gene encodes an enzyme involved in recycling proline and collagen metabolism, but none of these functions apply to the pseudogene itself.
