Overview

Peptide-chain-release factor 3 (RF3) is a GTPase enzyme found in a broad range of bacteria. It plays an essential role in the termination phase of protein synthesis by facilitating the recycling and removal of class I release factors (RF1 and RF2) from the ribosome after peptide release. RF3 also contributes to quality control during translation. It can stimulate premature termination on aberrant peptides, thereby enhancing fidelity by preventing accumulation of faulty proteins.
