Peptidylglycine alpha-amidating monooxygenase (PAM) is a bifunctional, membrane-bound enzyme essential for the post-translational modification of peptide hormones and neuropeptides. It catalyzes the conversion of inactive peptidylglycine precursors into bioactive alpha-amidated peptides, a modification critical for the full biological activity, stability, and receptor binding of many signaling peptides. PAM is implicated in various physiological pathways including neuronal communication and hormone action.
