Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase FKBP4, also known as FKBP52, is a member of the FK506-binding protein (FKBP) subfamily within the broader peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerases (PPIases) enzyme family. These enzymes catalyze the interconversion between the cis and trans forms of peptide bonds at proline residues in polypeptides—a critical step for proper protein folding and function. FKBP4 also acts as a co-chaperone for steroid receptors and interacts with immunosuppressive drugs such as tacrolimus (FK506).
