Target intelligence / Profile preview
Peptidylarginine deiminase 3 (PADI3) is an enzyme that catalyzes the post-translational conversion of arginine residues in proteins into citrullines (deimination). It is primarily expressed in the skin and hair follicles, where it modifies structural proteins like filaggrin and trichohyalin, contributing to hair follicle formation and epidermal cell differentiation. Mutations in PADI3 are associated with uncombable hair syndrome.
Catalyzes the conversion of protein-bound arginine to protein-bound citrulline, using calcium ions.
