Overview

PPIAL4A (Peptidylprolyl isomerase A-like 4A pseudogene) is a human pseudogene resembling the peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA) gene. While PPIA encodes Cyclophilin A, a well-known protein involved in protein folding and immunosuppression (as a cyclosporine target), PPIAL4A does not encode a functional protein and is categorized as a long non-coding RNA. PPIAL4A may play a role in the posttranscriptional regulation of its parental gene by acting as a decoy for microRNAs and potentially influencing expression of PPIA and other cyclophilin-related genes. However, no evidence suggests it is a direct therapeutic target, nor is it associated with approved drugs or established in disease mechanisms beyond speculative regulatory roles[2][1].
