Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 14 (PPIAP14) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional PPIA gene but does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like PPIAP14 are typically considered non-coding and do not have an enzymatic, structural, or receptor function. Some PPIA pseudogenes can regulate gene expression as long non-coding RNAs, for example by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) to regulate PPIA mRNA indirectly, but this has been specifically described only for other pseudogenes such as PPIAP22. There is currently no evidence that PPIAP14 serves as a therapeutic target or plays a direct role in disease. PPIAP14 is not a gene encoding a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classical drug target class. It is a pseudogene, most likely non-functional at the protein level, with no established biological or disease role, drug interactions, mechanisms of action, or biomarker utility reported as of now. For pharmacological or target discovery purposes, PPIAP14 is not considered actionable.
