Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 22 (PPIAP22) is a processed pseudogene transcribed as a long non-coding RNA. It is highly homologous to the protein-coding gene peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA; also known as cyclophilin A), but does not encode a protein. PPIAP22 acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), primarily sponging microRNA miR-197-3p, thus relieving its inhibitory effect on PPIA mRNA and promoting PPIA protein expression. Elevated levels of PPIAP22 have been identified in hepatocellular carcinoma and other cancers, where its upregulation correlates with poor patient prognosis. Mechanistically, PPIAP22 participates in the regulation of tumor proliferation, immune microenvironment modulation, and possibly mRNA metabolic processes; however, it is not a direct therapeutic target or receptor[1][2][3][4][5][7].
