Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 27 (PPIAP27) is a non-functional DNA segment classified as a pseudogene, meaning it originated from a duplication or related event involving the functional peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA) gene, but has since accumulated mutations that render it unable to encode a working protein[3][6]. Unlike its parent gene PPIA—which is a well-studied enzyme playing roles in protein folding, immune response, and viral infection—PPIAP27 does not produce cyclophilin A or participate in any known biological processes or disease mechanisms. Pseudogenes like PPIAP27 are widespread in the human genome and can sometimes act as regulatory RNAs, but there is no evidence that PPIAP27 has such a function. It is not targeted by any drugs and is not used as a disease biomarker or subject to therapeutic safety concerns.
