Overview

Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 28 (PPIAP28) is a pseudogene of the PPIA gene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically non-functional; they can sometimes serve as long non-coding RNAs with regulatory functions, particularly in cancer or gene expression networks, but there is no scientific evidence directly implicating PPIAP28 in any such functional or disease mechanism. Unlike its parent gene PPIA, which encodes cyclophilin A—a protein involved in protein folding, signal transduction, immune response, and viral infection—PPIAP28 does not encode a protein and is not a known therapeutic target. The literature on regulatory or disease roles for specific PPIA pseudogenes remains sparse, and most known functions are inferred from parent gene activities or from other better-studied pseudogenes.
