Overview

Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 3 (PPIAP3) is a pseudogene located in the human genome that shares high sequence similarity with the functional PPIA gene but is incapable of producing a functional protein. By definition, pseudogenes are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events leading to inactivation through mutations such as premature stop codons or frameshifts. While pseudogenes can sometimes be transcribed and influence gene regulation (for example, by acting as miRNA sponges or sources of regulatory RNAs), there is no evidence that PPIAP3 plays a direct biological or disease role or is targeted by drugs. Pseudogenes, including PPIAP3, are often sources of confusion in genetic and molecular studies due to their high homology with functional genes, potentially complicating gene amplification and detection[1][7][4][8].
