Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 55 (PPIAP55) is a human genomic pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional DNA sequence with high sequence similarity to the functional gene peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA)[5][1][7]. Unlike the PPIA gene, which encodes the enzyme cyclophilin A, PPIAP55 lacks the necessary sequence or regulatory elements to produce a functional protein and is currently not reported to have regulatory or biological function. Pseudogenes like PPIAP55 originate from duplication or retrotransposition events and are mostly considered nonfunctional, although a few pseudogenes related to other families can exert gene regulatory functions through RNA mechanisms; however, such roles are not described for PPIAP55[3][7]. There is no current evidence that peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 55 is a therapeutic target, biomarker, or associated with safety concerns.
