Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 72 (PPIAP72) is a non-functional genomic sequence in humans that shares significant sequence homology with the protein-coding gene peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA)[1][2]. Unlike the functional PPIA gene, which encodes cyclophilin A—an enzyme involved in protein folding, immune response, and disease pathology—PPIAP72 is classified as a pseudogene and does not encode any protein or functional receptor[1][2][4]. Pseudogenes like PPIAP72 may sometimes be transcribed into RNA and can play regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as sponging microRNAs or participating in chromatin architecture, but PPIAP72 itself is not involved in canonical molecular target activities (enzyme, receptor, transporter)[5][6][8]. There are no known direct therapeutic, biomarker, or drug interaction roles attributed to PPIAP72 specifically.
