Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 73 (PPIAP73) is a processed pseudogene related to the peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA or cyclophilin A) gene[1]. Unlike its parental gene, PPIAP73 does not encode a functional protein and has no known direct biological or pathological role. Pseudogenes like PPIAP73 may sometimes regulate gene expression through non-coding RNA mechanisms, as described for other PPIA pseudogenes, but there is no evidence for such a role for PPIAP73 itself[1][2][4]. Therefore, PPIAP73 is not considered a drug target, biomarker, or clinically relevant molecule. Key note: PPIAP73 should not be confused with functional peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA/cyclophilin A), which is an enzyme implicated in protein folding, immunoregulation, and disease and is sometimes targeted by drugs like cyclosporine[6]. However, PPIAP73 itself does not share these properties, and current biomedical databases list no disease nor pharmacological relevance for this pseudogene[1].
