Target intelligence / Profile preview

Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 78 (PPIAP78)

Target
PPIAP78
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) family
01

Overview

Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 78 (PPIAP78) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene homologous to peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA). Unlike PPIA, which is an enzyme involved in protein folding, immune modulation, and disease (such as inflammation and cancer), PPIAP78 does not encode a functional protein. It may have a regulatory role as a non-coding RNA, similar to other PPIA pseudogenes which can influence the expression of the parental gene through ceRNA/miRNA networks, but this role is not specifically established for PPIAP78. This pseudogene is not considered a therapeutic target, as pseudogenes do not encode proteins and are rarely directly targeted by drugs. While some PPIA pseudogenes have demonstrated functional relevance (e.g., PPIAP22 in cancer via regulatory RNA mechanisms), there is no evidence of such a specific role for PPIAP78. No prominent aliases, interacting drugs, or known biomarkers are published for PPIAP78, and it lacks characterization as a disease-relevant or therapeutic entity.

02

Mechanism of action

None known; not a therapeutic target

03

Biological functions

Likely acts as a non-coding RNA regulating gene expression via ceRNA/miRNA mechanisms (similar to other PPIA pseudogenes)
04

Disease associations

No direct evidence for disease relevance specific to PPIAP78; other PPIA pseudogenes have indirect roles in cancer as ceRNAs
