Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 8 (PPIAP8) is a gene located in the human genome that is classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are typically non-functional due to accumulated mutations that prevent expression of a functional protein. PPIAP8 is related by sequence to the parent gene Peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA), which encodes cyclophilin A, an enzyme involved in protein folding and intracellular signaling. However, PPIAP8 does not produce a functional protein and is not known to have direct biological activity, disease association, or interaction with drugs. It is officially classified as a pseudogene in the NCBI Gene database (Gene ID: 341457). Pseudogenes, unlike functional protein-coding genes, are generally considered remnants of evolution and usually do not encode active proteins or act as direct targets for drugs, biologics, or small molecules. While some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles at the RNA level, there is no specific evidence that PPIAP8 has any such function.
