Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 85 (PPIAP85) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a segment of DNA that is similar to the functional peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA) gene but is nonfunctional and does not encode an active protein product[2][3][4]. Pseudogenes typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and gradually accumulate disabling mutations, such as frameshifts or premature stop codons[4]. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed into RNA and in rare instances acquire regulatory roles, there is no current evidence that PPIAP85 is transcribed or functionally relevant[2][3][4]. It does not participate in biological pathways, is not a drug target, and is not known to have disease associations.
