Peptidylprolyl isomerase A pseudogene 87 (PPIAP87) is a pseudogene listed in genetic databases as a non-coding genomic segment similar in sequence to the active peptidylprolyl isomerase A (PPIA) gene, but it is not known to produce a functional protein or to act as a target for therapeutic agents[3][5]. PPIAP87, by virtue of being a pseudogene, may have regulatory potential at the RNA level comparable to some other PPIA pseudogenes (for example, PPIAP22, which may act as a ceRNA in hepatocellular carcinoma influence)[1][2], but no evidence is found specifically about PPIAP87 in this context, and no independent biological or clinical function has been established for this locus[3][5]. PPIAP87 is distinct from active gene family members such as PPIA (cyclophilin A)[4][8]. Pseudogenes as a class are increasingly studied for RNA-level regulatory roles, but for PPIAP87, no such function or disease association is yet described in current literature and reference databases[3][5].
