Overview
Peptidylprolyl isomerase domain and WD repeat-containing protein 1 (PPWD1) is a multifunctional nuclear enzyme that possesses both a peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) domain and WD repeat motifs. PPWD1 catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides—a key step in protein folding and regulation[5][6][7]. It acts within the spliceosome complex and is believed to play roles in pre-mRNA splicing and possibly other cellular processes. While annotated as a protein-coding gene with enzymatic activity, there are currently no direct drugs or mechanisms targeting PPWD1, but it may be indirectly implicated in disease, for example, as a partner in cancer-related gene fusions[3].
